Interview with Clarity: Winning Senior and Leadership Roles
Walk into your next senior interview with a clear leadership story, answers that show judgement, and the presence of someone already in the role.
Experienced, capable, and still answering like an operator.
At Head of and Director level, the panel already assumes you can do the work. What they are scoring is judgement, influence and outcomes.
Most senior candidates walk in with answers built for an earlier stage of their career: detailed, thorough and focused on tasks. If you haven’t interviewed recently, the gap is wider still. The result is that capable people come across as competent managers rather than as the leader the panel is trying to hire.
“I set up a project plan, ran weekly status meetings, tracked the milestones and made sure the team hit every deadline…”
“We had two credible options and not enough budget for both. I chose the slower one because it protected our biggest client, brought finance with me, and we kept the account and grew it by 18%.”
Built for one moment in a career.
This workshop is for you if
- You are going for a Head of, Director or senior manager role
- You haven’t sat a serious interview recently
- You have an interview booked or expected within the next three months
- You know your track record is strong, but your answers don’t yet show it
It isn’t the right fit if
- You are a graduate or looking for your first role
- You only want your CV rewritten
- You would rather listen than practise aloud
Five things you take into the room.
Every attendee speaks their answers aloud at least four times during the morning. You leave with material that is yours, already practised.
A 90-second leadership story
Your answer to “tell me about yourself”, drafted and practised aloud.
Two senior answers rebuilt
From operator detail into answers that show judgement, influence and outcomes.
A plan for senior-only questions
Strategy, stakeholder conflict, your first 90 days and the final-round presentation.
Three strong questions
To ask the panel, so the close of the interview works in your favour.
A one-page interview plan
For your next interview, with the gaps to close before the day.
The Senior Answer Frame
One method carries the whole morning. Four parts, roughly two minutes, with most of your time spent on the decision rather than the background. It replaces STAR, which pulls experienced candidates into task detail.
Context
The situation and what was at stake, in two sentences.
Judgement
The choice you made, the options you weighed, and why.
Influence
How you brought people with you: team, peers and senior stakeholders.
Outcome
The result in numbers or impact, and what you would do the same or differently.
Where the time goes in a strong senior answer.
Three hours: half teaching, half practice.
Welcome
Outcomes for the morning and confidentiality. Each person names the role they are going for.
What changes at senior level
What panels actually score. Operator answers against leader answers, with examples.
Your leadership story
Draft your 90-second introduction, deliver it in a trio, take feedback, deliver it again.
Break
Answers that show judgement
The Senior Answer Frame applied to two of your own answers, scored by an observer.
The senior-only questions
Strategy, stakeholder conflict, your first 90 days, the presentation. One curveball each, live.
Presence
Calm authority on video and in panels, talking about results comfortably, recovering from a weak answer.
Your next-interview plan
Complete your one-page plan, then open questions. We close at 13:00.
Times are GMT, the same as UK and Irish time on the day. That is 15:30 IST and 05:00 EST.
A small room, real practice.
Practice in trios
Speaker, interviewer and observer, rotating. You practise with other senior people, and Finbarr moves between the rooms giving feedback.
Cameras on
Presence is part of what you practise, so cameras on is required to take part. Please join from somewhere quiet.
Teaching recorded, practice private
The teaching segments are recorded for a 30-day replay. Breakout practice is never recorded, so you can speak freely about real roles and results.

Before you book
I’m not in the UK or Ireland. Can I join?
Yes. The workshop runs at 10:00–13:00 GMT, which is 15:30 in India and 05:00 on the US East Coast. You can pay by card in pounds or euros from anywhere.
What if I can’t attend live?
The value of the morning is in the live practice, so please book only if you can attend. If plans change 7 or more days before, you get a full refund. Closer to the day, you can transfer free to a later date, take a 12-month credit, or send a colleague in your place.
Why do cameras need to be on?
Presence is one of the things being practised, and your trio partners need to see you to give useful feedback. Cameras on is a condition of taking part.
Will what I say be recorded?
Only the teaching segments are recorded. Breakout practice is never recorded, and everything shared in the room stays in the room.
I have an interview next week. Is this still worth it?
Yes. You will leave with your leadership story and two rebuilt answers ready to use. If your interview is before 21 November, a one-to-one session is likely to suit you better. Get in touch and we will find the right option.
What happens after I book?
You’ll receive a confirmation straight away, then your Zoom link, the workbook and a short preparation task by email before the day.
Stop answering like an operator. Start interviewing like a leader.
